125: April 2025

Spring is coming to Chicago: the tree in our backyard has proper leaves on it now, the tulips I planted last fall have all bloomed, and the seed I scattered a few weeks ago has started to sprout. Chicago spring is cold and muddy and always takes longer to get going than I'd like it to. The soil isn't warm enough yet to plant corn and tomatoes, which I've been dying to grow ever since I realized I had the space back in the fall. But the whole world feels like it's starting to wake up. The robins are back. We've had a few days this past month where we've been able to keep the windows open. I think I'm starting to wake up too.

What I wrote:

For Seeing & Believing, I wrote reviews of Warfare (upsetting!) Sinners (it's good!) and The Legend of Ochi (I wanted to like it!).

What I talked about:

Host Chance Solem-Pfeifer was kind enough to invite me on to his podcast The Kick to talk about vampire movies set in America. I talked with him about Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark, a movie I can't shake.
