29: A Brief One This Time

I'm traveling this weekend, and resting on my laurels from cleaning house in the semi-annual Welch family Wizard card game tournament. (I also got my butt kicked in cornhole, so it all evens out.) I'll be back next week with more substantial thoughts, but in the meantime, I hope you had a safe holiday weekend full of good food.

Thanks for reading! If you have any thoughts, or just want to drop me a line, feel free to get in touch.

What I wrote:

For subscribers, I wrote about Charlotte Wells' debut feature Aftersun, and about how it works both as a pseudo-memoir and a movie about grief in a landscape full of movies that don't manage to pull off either the genre or the subject matter.

What I talked about:

For this week's Seeing & Believing episode, Kevin and I reviewed Rian Johnson's Glass Onion. We also talked about Kurosawa's High and Low, which I had never seen before, and which had me bouncing off the couch as I was watching it. We had a great conversation about both movies.

I also guested on the Eye of the Duck podcast this week! Adam and Dom have been running a miniseries on zombie movies this fall, and they had me on to talk about George Romero's final film, Survival of the Dead.
